For me, every painting is a journey, from within outward. I often start with a concept, an idea that I want to pursue and explore visually. Music, image or thought inspire the inception of an idea. Sketching or line drawing often prepares my visualization and compositional arrangement of a piece. My canvases emphasize the essential elements of shape, color, form, and gestural mark to achieve intense and rhythmic effects.

Using charcoal or acrylic pens, I delineate my "path," spontaneously marking the canvas or board and initiate my dialogue with the surface. I combine intuitive spontaneity with rational planning, thus balancing the freedom to explore with some general layout in mind. Chromatic neutrals are often my starting point. Later, I apply colors with various textured pastes and brushes to harmonize the image. To create a complex surface, I use many techniques that may include scratching, blotting, dripping, splattering, mark marking and collage layering. Each painting evolves in its own way, inspiring  endless possibilities to ponder and connect with.
